Bowl Selection
Tying the bonds of resonance.
Spending time with crystal bowls,
I feel that each one
is almost like a person.
Each has its own voice, its own personality.
Even with the same Alchemy type and the same note,
no two resonate alike.
And just like people meeting people,
depending on which bowl meets which,
the resonance goes beyond mere sound
and reveals an entirely different, radiant expression.
I search for crystal bowls
as if I were searching
for a destined partner.
A sound found far away
may resonate astonishingly beautifully
with a sound that has been with me for years.
From an encounter with one sound,
a new harmony is born,
and leads on to the next sound.
Tied together little by little,
the bonds of resonance.
Each one overlaps with the next,
and in time becomes a great resonance.
That is
the origin of my Crystal Bowl Orchestra.

The world of sound I see, shared with you.
From how to play a crystal bowl
to frequency, pitch, overtones, and the relationships between sounds.
What you hear with your ears and feel with your body
doesn’t end as mere sensation—
we unravel it all the way to “why does it resonate this way?”
Pure intonation, too, is one way into understanding sound.
Rather than memorizing numbers,
you come to understand the relationships while listening to real sound.
Learning to choose and combine sounds yourself,
and to create the resonance a place needs.
Along with performance technique,
we cultivate the “power to listen” itself.
Sacred Offering Lesson
Offering sound to the place itself.
A lesson for sacred offering performances at shrines and temples,
learning not only technique but “how to make sound resonate in that place.”
Learning about the place of the offering.
Feeling that land and that space.
Considering what you pray for, and what you wish to bring as sound.
And on the day itself, rather than simply reproducing a prepared performance,
you listen closely to the air, the people, and the sounds of nature in that moment,
and play in response to the place.
Choosing crystal bowls and combinations of sounds,
the structure of the performance, volume, the timing of pauses, and the ensemble when several people make an offering together—
we build together every element a real offering requires.
Not keeping prayer only in your heart,
but expressing it as your own sound and bringing it to that place.
While creating a sacred offering performance as a single work,
this lesson deepens the performer’s own “power to listen” and “power to express.”
